Some of my memories are quite sketchy of this remarkable journey that began on April 17, 2017. Ohh.. what a day, shine of which I realize only every single day seeing my life’s plans blooming up. My carrier and it was my first day of office.
I will never forget my first day of work.. as a Programmer.
My offer letter from the company was posted to the wrong mail address. Funny start, but for a newbie, it was upside down.
So, joining date was not confirm officially.
But I had word with HR and wollah!! resolution.
They pay salary, teach us tech and give respect as well.
Ahh.. truth about hard work I realized later 😊
So at first day.. back as like in school days, my proud father escorted me to the office. I had to wait outside because they were openly stealing my thumbs print. They don’t know me, how important I am.. next Bill Gates. And they are using my thumbprint to open gates and mark my attendance. I thought, soon I will buy this company.
Though later when I started working, matching up my knowledge with superiority of team seniors, I dropped plans of being Bill Gates.
Next, HR took me to the vending machine, and showed me how to make a coffee.
_______ ___ __ __ _ _____ _ _ ___ __ __ _ _____ _ _ _ ___ __ __ _ _____ _ _
Here please understand, its blank space in my thoughts about what to say here.
Any programmer can tell how important coffee is. Theirs the entire water cooler and vending machine section in all the offices of world which drains out the toxins of work environment.
And above that caffeine best triggers the reserve supply in brains, so this was a high priority task.
HR next introduced me to team members suffixed with their expertise and experience. Told me about office timings and policies and what I loose from salary on being late.
I was taken to my cubicle. Funny again as my notepad looked more expensive that my PC. Chair has smooth wheels though.
One approached and assigned the very first task to me. I had to work under him.
“Shanshah jaha khede hote hai, line wahi se shuru hoti hai..”
But it’s OK. He had ton more knowledge than me.
I must say, he was a nice guy. The amount of knowledge he had at that time, the humble he was. He guided me how to start work on the task very politely and that it must be complete by end of the day. First nail in @#@.
Its new dayyyyy, its a new deskkkkk.. and I am feeeeling it. Well its my lunch in new environment, so default I had it open on my desk at lunch time.
And again HR teleported by my side and told me some rules of office culture and that we should always have lunch with our colleagues.
So, I joined the lunch table with them.
Then came the eaters before crops were grown. HR backed by the rest of the team, told me another ritual that any new joinee has to give treat from their first salary. Well don’t take me wrong, its gona be my first salary.. my life’s first salary. Means I want to see how salary looks, I might wont take my eyes off from my bank statement on that day.. as I thought and these guys wants to have pizzas and burgers from that.
Ohh no, wrong place. Well jokes apart, I will do it and will take revenge on the next newbie, I thought in my mind.
But among all these mind chattering.. I missed how time had passed and by the end of lunch, I felt comfortable and friendly with all my colleagues.
One of my friend was working here prior to me. He helped me to complete my task. In school days it was called cheating.. in this journey it’s different. But whole life gained a different meaning now and I was loving it.
And next was my senior checking my code. He then passed it to the production and assign new task for tomorrow.
So this is how a complete rotation on its axis feels like.
Back then I was not habitual of sitting this long, it was really a big day.
At the end I left office premises by shaking hands with all of my colleagues.
I was happy and kind of ‘enjoying’ this beginning of career and work delicacy.
And that’s it.
That was the substance of my life’s first day at office.
Everything starts from somewhere to reach somewhere. We might know or might not know about our destinations. But we definitely don’t have a clue about the journey.
I say, it’s not the destination of the journey that really intrigues.
It’s your ‘orientation’ to see.. which generally we miss because it is extremely common,
and ‘will’ to enjoy that common.
Life is wonderful.
