It’s a bit twisted to initiate a debate on this subject. Because this question is wrong. Is AI (artificial intelligence) dangerous for humans?
..No. But we don’t know the future.
Human’s survival actions are as per philosophies which he concluded from the analysis of insertion into unknowns.
So whether AI is OK.. depends on our assumption that things we developed cannot kill us.
But cars run over humans and planes crash and kill a lot of humans. The point is before the invention of the wheel when humans were walking, there were no vehicle accidents at all. Invention of the wheel increased the risk and accidents. Humans compared the value added from the invention to the risks that comes with it and let’s say for example invented breaks.
But in parallel to the invention of breaks, he also desired for speed.. to cover distance quicker.
Breaks put break on accidents but speed increased the speed of mishappening.
Then the human trains himself for quicker reflexes so that he can make decisions quicker while driving, he is not riding a bull-cart but a car. It moves faster and does not have decision making brains of its own compared to a bull or horse mustered in a cart.
Training from driving schools helps in this.
Then human flew and become trillions times more aware to control a flying plane as compared to a car. By proper education and training he learned that as well.
Now he is flying into space.
Means as always, with progress humans have to get out of the box in computation power, awareness, knowledge equivalent reflexes needed to be together with the progress.
The word progress means in technology, tools, general knowledge needed in daily life. After all this is where all wants to get.. i.e. daily life. We spend ‘times more’ on things that we use once or don’t want to use them at all. Going into space, wars, artificial organs.. all these research and expenditure only so that humans can live their daily life better then previous and that the next generation lives better than of today.
In history, it never happened that human have willingly carried even one vestigial thing. Man-made progress either developed more or that research left in sands of time if of no use.
Only because we want to better our daily lives..
And AI (artificial intelligence) is showing all the necessary characteristics to be that next civilization. It is not ephemeral, unlimited resources are being invested into it from many visible and hidden human dimensions. And above all, it is now seamlessly into our daily life. Not only in it but AI is also producing parallel streams to grow in the same tremendous form such as smart devices, IoT, digitalization of information, e-payments etc.
Once power-windows and power-steering when treated as luxury and comes in 50-55 thousand dollars cap cars.. are now a default feature of under 10 thousand dollar cars. One day Tesla’s self driving will come default and who knows if the government will provide a house and a job and a car default to every citizen as they provide birth certificate.
This is as I said above ‘making daily life better’. Right now there are fights among countries. In future we live together as one country but might see securing our space edge from neighboring planetary enemies. Homeland securities will be seen guarding all on earth and army soldiers might be seen space patrolling in their space ships.
Apart from the core discussion all the above scenarios will have their hardware and software being controlled by AI and some super AI.. to make humanware better and safe in more uncharted scenarios then from today.
Right now we are assuming these and much more. Who will see these, will be our coming generation and who will live in common with these progresses (as we live with lights now) will be evolved humans. Evolved with more computation power, awareness, knowledge equivalent reflexes to AI of that time.
And this might be an answer to whether AI (artificial intelligence) will be dangerous for humans or not.
It will be.. if humans do not progress with it.
And it will be extremely assistive for those who update themselves.
